Faster Browsing With Apple Safari v3

I really do like Firefox. So much so that I wouldn’t usually recommend any other web browser; until now. If you use Internet Explorer and always have you may be wondering what all the fuss is about, well take a few minutes to read this article and you might end up sending good old IE out to graze for good.
In the summer Apple launched Safari version 3 Public Beta, claiming that it is the worlds best browser. It has been around for ages on the mac but now it is available on Windows. According to Apple:
“Experience the web, Apple style, with Safari; the fastest, easiest-to-use web browser in the world. Safari’s clean, sleek look lets you focus on the web instead of your browser. The browser frame is a mere one pixel wide. You see a scroll bar only when you need one. You see no status bar by default - a blue progress bar fills the address field as the page loads - giving you more room to browse and view the web.”
True, it is exceptionally fast and certainly faster than IE 7 just from us using it all day to view a range of websites and their load speeds. The above graph, from the Apple website illustrates that fact. It is also extensible. There are a lot of excellent plugins and apps to enhance Safari, but equally there are some awful ones too. There has been though, reports of bugs and poor performance. Several international users who have downloaded the beta version noticed problems with loading bookmarks. When opening or importing bookmarks, Safari crashes. It also shows error messages such as: “Safari is missing important resources and should be reinstalled.” Since many other websites reviewed Safari, there have been some significant updates.
So should you ditch Internet Explorer for the new browser from Apple? It’s early days and the bugs and glitches certainly don’t help - it’s already been reported that users have found a plethora of security holes in the application on the Windows version. It’s redeeming feature is it’s speed, but it has nothing more than Firefox. Ok, maybe get rid of IE, but it doesn’t beat the Fox. No way.
