Office 2007 Document Compatability

If you didn’t already know, Microsoft Office 2007 uses a different file format to all other previous versions. The file names include an extra ‘x’ on them, so ‘.doc’ becomes ‘.docx’ etc. The problem is that there is no way of opening them if you are running older versions; this can be a pain if you are constantly transferring files between different machines with incompatible versions.
Well, there are some online file converters that support a range of file types, but as they are web applications, they are not always convenient. The workaround? There are now Word and Powerpoint viewers available. No Excel version yet, but we are assured it is on the horizon.
