Have you ever taken a picture with your digital camera only to wish that certain elements the image were larger? Conventional enlarging techniques, even in the mighty Photoshop often leave undesirable results with blurred and pixelated areas. There is now a new online Flash application may have the golden solution to image resizing.
Rsizr allows you to alter your images dimensions without distorting key elements in the shot. It uses a method called ‘seam carving‘ to work out which parts of the picture are important and which can be stretched or compressed without noticeable problems. Essentially it divides a photo into slices and removes uninteresting slices while keeping the highly detailed parts intact.
Most of the work done in rsizr is automatic, but for more detailed work some manual tools help you identify some of the more important areas. There is no file size restriction but resolution is limited to a maximum height / width of 2880 pixels. The first video clip below walks you through the basics of the technique:
