Supermarket giant Tesco has been big news this week. At last the long-awaited, and very long-winded, Competition Commission Report on supermarkets was published yesterday. Apparently Tesco may account for £1 in every £7 spent on the UK high street, it may pull in nearly £1 out of every £3 spent on food. The commission also found that some suppliers were bullied and threatened by supermarkets. Download the Commission Report here. So let’s have a look at, how as a consumer, we can get the best deals from Tesco.

Now you could always go down the conventional route to your bargain, but where would be the fun in that? Well you could look at Tesco in Jersey, as it has VAT exemption. Cheaper than Amazon for CDs / DVDs, apparently.

Tesco BagThere are many websites that list discount ‘promotional codes’, these can be used on the Tesco website for money off various goods and even to collect more Club Card points. You can usually collect 1 point for every £1 spent at the store or online and 1 point is then worth 1 penny. Points can be redeemed for vouchers that can be re-spent back at Tesco for goods, fuel and even air miles; this FAQ explains more. Have a look at offercodes.co.uk, savacode.com, gcodes.co.uk and popshops.co.uk for more information on discount codes and vouchers. Don’t worry if your vouchers expire either, as Captain Consumer explains.

Master cash saver Martin Lewis from MoneySavingExpert.com has a great page about loyalty scheme tricks and there are also online tools that help you calculate what your points are really worth. Here is some more good advice about using your vouchers and a savings account loop-hole.
